Woodbrook House dates from the 1770s but was damaged in the 1798 rebellion and substantially rebuilt. The result is a spacious, warm house with an exceptionally large drawing room and a dramatic flying spiral staircase. The home cooked food is excellent, being made with largely organic and local produce.

Giles and Alexandra FitzHerbert and their four children have lived at Woodbrook since 1998, seeking to restore both house and grounds to the former glory and adding bathrooms and central heating. More recently, the house has been opened to provide country accommodation. Giles is a former ambassador and Alexandra is of Anglo-Italian-Irish-Chilean extraction so are both accustomed to entertaining guests from all over the world. Alexandra is an excellent cook and the walled garden provides excellent seasonal vegetables, for example, lots of asparagus in April and May.

Guests can wander in the woods or play on the newly re-sown grass tennis court beside the house. There are wonderful mountain walks in the Blackstairs, Slieve Ban, and along Mount Leinster.
