Transport to Ireland

Visit Transport for Ireland, the National Transport Authority's one-stop-shop for up-to-the-minute travelling information where you can access door-to-door journey plans, real-time bus and Luas timetables, or even top up your Leap card.

Bus Éireann operates a network of bus routes linking towns, villages and cities. Bikes can be brought on Bus Éireann buses in the luggage compartment which incurs a fee. Regional bus companies operate in most parts of the countries linking towns with cities.

Large towns and cities have bus services available, such as Dublin Bus, and information on individual routes nationwide can be found on the Transport for Ireland website.

Irish CityLink is Irelands leading provider of coach services linking Ireland's main cities and airports. They operate 100 daily departures across a network of routes, providing express and commuter routes between Galway to Dublin, Galway to Dublin & Dublin Airport, Galway to Cork, Galway to Limerick, Limerick to Dublin Airport and Galway Dublin commuter.

Local Link bus services connect communities throughout rural Ireland as part of the TFI Public Transport Network. They form a network of affordable bus services for everyone who wants to travel to travel to or from local towns and villages. They have two different types of Local Link service: Regular Rural Bus Services and Door-to-Door Bus Services.

The Intercity rail service provided by Iarnród Éireann connects major towns and cities across Ireland. Small dogs and cats can be carried free of charge in the passenger compartment. While luggage can be stored in overhead racks, luggage racks at carriage ends and "in-between seat" spaces.

All InterCity trains have bicycle carriage facilities, where the bicycle spaces are within the passenger compartment. These routes are restricted to two bicycles per service. Bicycles that are folded and covered can be carried on all services free of charge. Charges apply on all intercity routes.

A bicycle can be carried up to a maximum of 1.8 metres in length and up to 0.865m in width. It is recommended that customers reserve their bicycle spaces online where available in advance of travel. Just select the bicycle option when you are reserving a seat. Local rail services, commuter trains and the DART link parts of Dublin and Cork with the city and nearby regions.

The Luas light rail service is available in Dublin. Park and ride facilities can be used to access the city without a car. There are 67 stations on two lines servicing the city centre and surrounding areas.

The TFI Leap card is a convenient way to pay for public transport across the TFI transport network.

TFI bikes is a self-service bike rental system that is available for hire in cities Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Galway. Bike rentals are also available in popular cycling areas such as Greenways and Forest parks. In Dublin bike sharing services are available through Bleeperbike and Dublinbikes.

Car sharing services, such as GoCar, are available in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Drogheda and Dundalk. Their fleet of vehicles include small cars, family sized cars and vans, all are available on hourly and daily rates.
