Discover the secret life of the Blackstairs Mountains and River Barrow. Learn more about the birds, flora, fungi, mammals and butterflies of these areas with Blackstairs Eco Trails in Borris, County Carlow.

Join expert guides Robert and Mary White for an informative ramble through the lovely lanes, lowlands, bogs and streams of the Blackstairs Mountain area and the River Barrow. Discover the secret life of the forest, the edible plants and fungi and learn about the natural environment. Tours suit all ages. Depending on the weather, the tours will be in the foothills of the Blackstairs, with low hills or no hills, or along the River Barrow and down to Clashganny and Ballytiglea.

Look at the natural topography of the landscape and the local archaeology. County Carlow has some fine dolmens, standing stones and cairns. Find and learn about lichens and mosses, grasses and ferns, birds and mammals. Check the website for details on the Celtic Tree Trail and discover the seven noble trees of our forebears the Celts.

Discover a full programme of tours and events taking place at the Old Rectory and the Barn. Customised experiences, such as hen parties, company days out and weddings can be arranged. Foraging walks include three course lunches and opportunities to prepare food items with foraged ingredients to take home.

Go wild with Blackstairs Eco Trails and leave no trace.
