Caherconnell Fort & Sheepdog Demonstrations on Davoren farm in the Burren, is beside Poulnabrone Dolmen. The heritage site has daily guided tours of the stone ring fort, sheepdog demonstrations and visitor facilities including a café and craft shop.

Visit the magnificent Caherconnell Fort, a ringfort that's over 1,000 years old in County Clare. The trained guides take visitors through its exciting history and archaeology to see what life was like for people who lived there in ancient times.

Plan a trip around one of the sheepdog demonstrations, which take place daily from the middle of March to October. Check out the combined skills of the border collies and the master shepherd John. Meet Rose, Gill and Sally, and learn how the dogs are trained. There will also be plenty of time for cuddles and photos afterwards.

Refresh and revive at the Mountain Haven Café, with a range of delicious soups, sandwiches, salads and homemade goodies.

Why we like it
  • See a Irish ring fort.
  • Take a self guided tour.
  • Watch the daily sheepdog demonstrations.
  • Enjoy local produce in the charming café.
Tips from locals

Just a 1km drive north of Caherconnell Fort is the iconic Poulnabrone Portal Dolmen. This is the second-most visited location in the Burren, after the Cliffs of Moher.
