The Workhouse Famine & Heritage Centre is a restored workhouse building located 300m from Dunfanaghy Square along the N56 in County Donegal.

The Workhouse Famine & Heritage Centre, Dunfanaghy, County Donegal, has been operating as a visitor information point, Famine museum and community hub since it opened in 1995. It provides an array of onsite facilities that includes a craft shop, café, playpark, a heritage trail and a 30 seater cinema space.

Hear the story of Wee Hannah in the exhibition and enjoy exclusive footage from the 1930s to 1960s of the Dunfanaghy area in the cinema. Find some great Irish brands in the craft shop and enjoy a coffee too, before heading out to the playpark or on to the heritage trail to learn more about Dunfanaghy’s rich history.

The Workhouse Famine & Heritage Centre is in the heart of County Donegal and is within easy walking distance of the scenic Horn Head and the fabulous Tramore Beach, or a short drive to Glenveagh National Park, Ards Forest Park, Doe Castle and the Gaeltacht. It operates from March to December.

Events are hosted throughout the year at the Workhouse, so visit their website or social media pages to be kept up to date with all that’s going on.
