Clonbur Wood Loop Walk
More from visitors like you
Explore gorgeous County Galway forest and placid lake shores on an easy 7.4km loop. Spot geological marvels, woodland beauty and more in this idyllic corner of the Wild Atlantic Way.

A verdant 7.4km trail, Clonbur Wood Loop Trail leads you through charming mixed woodland and along the south shore of serene Lough Mask.

An easy, flat loop, it takes 2.5 hours to complete and traverses forest road and track.

Enjoy all the gems of this County Galway landscape, from the islands that pepper Lough Mask to the striking limestone pavements underfoot and scenic Clonbur River too.

Native and exotic tree species like Beech, Ash, Hazel, Birch, Willow, Yew, Scots Pine and Larch make up this stunning natural scenery.

Once your woodland explorations are complete, the pretty Gaeltacht village of Clonbur is the place to stop for that welcome cup of tea.

Why we like it
  • This loop skirts the south edge of Lough Mask, showcasing simply majestic views of the lake and its many islands.
  • Not far from this trail you’ll find the remains of Ballykine Castle, a 13th-century stronghold that sits between Lough Corrib and Lough Mask.
