Dinis Cottage

Killarney, Co. Kerry
This historical cottage dates back to the 1700s. It is located in the heart of Killarney National Park close to the Old Weir Bridge and the Meeting of the Waters. It has operated as tea rooms for more than 200 years. Dinis Cottage was built by the Herberts, previous owners of Muckross House and the surrounding park; it was once a hunting lodge and retains a wonderful Victorian magic and charm.

Dinis Cottage is open during the summer season and provides a tempting stop off for the many visitors, walking the popular Muckross and Dinis 10km circular trail through the National Park and taking in Torc Waterfall.

The tea room has seating for 33 people inside and there is also outdoors seating, weather permitting. The menu includes light refreshments, tea, coffee, homemade scones and apple pie and freshly made sandwiches.

Some of the graffiti etched on the windows of Dinis Cottage dates back to the 1820s. There was a tradition for newly engaged couples to carve their names, for luck, on the glass windows with their new diamond.

Dinis Cottage can be accessed by foot or on a bike, from within the National Park, following the trail from Muckross House or by walking from the car park situated just beyond Torc waterfall on the N71 Kenmare road.
