Follow the River Barrow’s historic towpath on a pictorial 116.9km trail through counties Kildare, Laois and Carlow. Ideal for all level of walker, heritage sites and riverside scenery abound on this linear route.

A four day walk, the serene Barrow Way stretches south from Robertstown, County Kildare to St Mullin’s, County Carlow.

Easy underfoot, the terrain is flat with grassy towpaths, tracks and quiet roads. This tranquil route follows the River Barrow’s towpath, boasting inspiring natural beauty.

Across the Robertstown, Monasterevin and Athy stretch, enjoy great views of the Hill of Allen and the Wicklow Mountains.

On the Carlow Town to Bagenelstown section, Milford boasts one of the most idyllic areas. Showcasing three bridges, woodlands and a spot known for heron and kingfisher sightings, it’s a satisfying stretch.

Passing from town to town, old stone bridges, houses and mill buildings add to the trail’s rich charm.

Across Goresbridge, Graiguenamanagh and St Mullin’s, pretty village scenes, ecclesiastical heritage and more wooded landscapes await.

With plenty of towns and villages en route, you’ll have your choice of places to relax along Ireland’s second longest river.
