Malzards Pub and Hurling Experience is in Stoneyford, close to Kilkenny City. Visitors can enjoy learning the game of hurling, while meeting skilled locals in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. Music and storytelling can be included as part of a package.

Malzards Pub is a fifth generation, family operated business based in Stoneyford, County Kilkenny conveniently located close to Junctions 9 and 10 on the M9 (Dublin to Waterford) motorway.

This pub is all about family and community. The Malzard family live on the premises and will be there to greet you. Whether it is Charlie who has worked in the bar since 1950, or his son Fred, you will receive a warm welcome.

Malzards Pub is a fun place for a group of people. Specifically suitable for groups of between 15 and 50, while bespoke packages are available for smaller groups.

The most popular package involves groups of 15 or more, where they may enjoy a village welcome which expresses to them the importance of the Irish pub in rural Ireland and in particular in the village of Stoneyford where the Malzard family have operated the local hostelry for over 200 years.

Visitors may learn to play the ancient Irish game of hurling in a relaxed, enjoyable environment. This can last anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours. Visitors will get a short history lesson on the game with a skilled local in the family bar. They may then go to the field to the rear of the premises and practise their skills, before returning to the bar for refreshments.

Music and storytelling are also in abundance. Following the exertions on the field, visitors will return to the comfort of the family bar where musicians will play favourite tunes and invite visitors to participate in playing instruments including accordions, whistles and bodhrans.

The musicians are fully prepared to play requests of any type from their years in the entertainment business. There is a choice of music packages, from traditional to sing along, as there are a large number of local musicians.

Irish dancers are also available with prior arrangement. These include previous members of the Riverdance crew who are living locally and are happy to oblige with a few steps.

A renowned storyteller, Jim Maher, may also be available with prior arrangement.

Lunch options are available when organised in advance.
