Why we like it
  • Ballyduff House, which you’ll pass on the trail, is a glorious Georgian country house set on stunning parkland. From here you’ll also pass through the charming broadleaf Brownsbarn Wood.
  • You’ll pass two castle ruins on this trail. The 13th-century Grennan Castle was built by Strongbow’s son-in-law. The second historic castle you’ll find is Dysart Castle, it was the childhood home of Irish philosopher Bishop George Berkeley.
  • Noted for its salmon, the River Nore is also home to crayfish and otters. The arches of its bridges are also popular spots for Daubenton bats in nestle in.
