Discover Creevelea Abbey on the banks of the scenic River Bonet in County Leitrim. It was one of the last friaries established in Ireland before King Henry VIII dissolved monasteries throughout Ireland and England.

Explore the magnificent ruins of ancient Creevelea Abbey, the Franciscan friary was built in 1508 although less than 30 years later, it was forced to shut its doors. See the impressive nave, the south transept, and the bell tower that was converted into living quarters in the 17th century. Take some time to explore the cloisters as it features several fascinating stone carvings, including one of St Francis of Assisi preaching to birds.

From the impressive vantage point of the Abbey, see the former water mill complex which was built in the 1800s. Make a day of it and head off for a long walk to appreciate the picturesque countryside. Stop off at the Lake Isle of Innisfree and hike over Killery Mountain into Slish Wood - this route is 10km from Dromahair. To return, retrace your footsteps back to the village.
