Hear about bibles, famine, guns, starvation and the struggle for Ireland's destiny. The Colony Tour in Doogort, County Mayo, is a 2 hour gentle walk around the ruins of the historic Achill Mission with BAFTA winning writer and Achill Islander Kevin Toolis.

In 1831, the year of our Lord, a young Irish Prophet came to the West of Ireland to save the heathen native Irish from the errors of Popery and found a new Protestant Zion in the most miserable wilderness of the Irish nation, Achill Island.

The arrival of Edward Nangle on Achill would then ignite a 50 year long religious war waged with guns, bibles, famine and starvation. Learn more about this struggle for the destiny of the Irish nation with his archrival, His Grace Archbishop of Tuam, Dr John MacHale.
