Yeats Memorial Building
More from visitors like you
The Yeats Building is in the heart of Sligo Town on the River Garavogue. It’s a well preserved arts and crafts building over 120 years old. Here, the Yeats Society celebrates the life and work of Nobel poet WB Yeats and his talented family, sisters Susan and Elizabeth and brother Jack. County Sligo was a source of inspiration and creativity for all of WB’s life. His mother, Susan was from Sligo and she gave all her children a love of this place, its history, legends, folklore and its glorious wild Atlantic scenery.

At the Yeats Building you can visit the Yeats Exhibition and hear stories about the Yeats family. There is a charge for visiting but under 12s are free. The Yeats Society organise talks and tours on request.

Upstairs is the light filled Hyde Bridge Gallery, where there are 11 exhibitions a year, which are free to visit. Access to their eclectic book collection in the library, overlooking the river, can be booked in advance.

They also have a wedding licence, allowing for groups up to 40. The couple can sign the register at Susan Yeats’ original writing desk.

The Yeats Society run the annual Yeats International Summer School, now the longest running literary school in the world. The Society has many members and runs a variety of events during the year. Their app, Yeats Unwrapped, is free to download from all platforms. It gives details on several Yeats trails across the county.
