Marl Bog is located on the Tipperary to Thurles road, 1km on Tipperary side of Dundrum Village. It is a part of Dundrum Forest which is centred around Dundrum village in County Tipperary. The area of Dundrum forest is 670 hectares and includes the following forest properties, Ballymore, Cappamurra Bog, Gortard, Gortarush, Gortussa, Hogans Bog, Killenure, Marl Bog, Menagerie Field and Pheasant Grove.

Marl Bog consists of a mixed woodland and a man-made lake. The Lake was built by a landlord named Maude and feeds another pond, the water from which drove the mill wheels on the estate. There are adequate parking facilities on site and existing forest and lakeside trails. Marl Pond is roughly seven hectares in size. The lake is stocked with brown trout managed by the Dundrum Fisheries Group.

There is also a wildlife sanctuary is located in Marl Bog property at the South West end of the forest. Mammals include fallow deer, fox, badger, red squirrel, Irish stoat, otter and mink. There is also a great diversity of bird life. The flora is mainly coniferous, and includes Sitka spruce, Norwegian spruce and Douglas fir. There are also some scattered broadleaves including: oak, beech, horse chestnut, ash, alder, sycamore, birch, holly and hazel. As the name Marl Bog suggests the main soil type is marl and gley over a gravel base.
